What We Help With
Fertility & IVF Support
Specialist Chinese medicine support for every stage and side of your fertility journey, whether you’re trying to conceive naturally or undergoing IVF.

Fertility difficulties often bring uncertainty: about timing, about treatment and about what you can do alongside your conventional care.
Trying to conceive can look very different from one person to the next. You may have been trying for some time, be facing an unexpected diagnosis, or find yourself navigating tests, appointments and IVF cycles. Sometimes there are answers. Sometimes there are still a lot of questions.
There’s an emotional side to this too. The waiting, the uncertainty, the repeated cycles of hope and disappointment can take their toll, especially once investigations or treatment are already underway. Chinese medicine can be used alongside your conventional care, not in place of it, offering support through what can be a demanding time, physically and emotionally.
For over 50 years, we’ve supported people trying to conceive, naturally and alongside IVF and other fertility treatments. Our practitioners have specialist experience in both female and male fertility, and we’ll get a full picture of where you are now, including your health history, any investigations or treatment you’ve already had.
Depending on your circumstances, acupuncture may be used on its own or alongside lifestyle advice and Chinese herbal medicine where appropriate.
What We See
Areas We Commonly Support
The areas listed are not exhaustive. Contact us if you’re unsure whether Chinese medicine may be suitable for your situation.
How We Work
A Whole-Person Approach
Good care starts with understanding the wider picture. Your health history, lifestyle, current symptoms, and what you’re seeking support for all help inform what we recommend and, just as importantly, what we don’t.
Your Health Comes First
We only recommend what we believe is appropriate for you. Our practitioners are not paid on commission, so you’ll never be advised to have treatments or medicines you don’t need.
Clear, Honest Advice
Chinese medicine can often feel unfamiliar. We’ll explain what we find, what we recommend and why, answer your questions and help you make informed decisions about your care.
Who Treats You Matters
Our practitioners are selected for their clinical expertise and professional standards. We follow the codes of conduct of the Chinese Medicine Council and CMIR, and use carefully sourced, high-quality herbs and sterile single-use needles.

Common Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
Fertility & IVF
Can I have acupuncture while undergoing IVF or other fertility treatment?
Yes. Support of this kind is intended to sit alongside your conventional fertility care, and your practitioner will work around your clinic's protocol. Please tell us where you are in your cycle or treatment schedule so appointments can be timed sensibly.
At what stage of IVF can I start acupuncture?
Patients come to us at every stage — before starting, during stimulation, around transfer and after. Starting earlier gives more time to work with, but your practitioner will advise what is realistic from where you are now.
Can Chinese medicine support natural fertility?
Chinese medicine is often used by people trying to conceive naturally, looking at cycle regularity, sleep, stress and general health as part of the wider picture rather than one measurement alone.
Can both partners receive support?
Yes. Male and female fertility are both assessed and treated here, and it is common for couples to be seen together or in parallel.
What should I bring to my first fertility appointment?
Any test results, records or clinic protocol you have, along with where you are in your cycle or treatment schedule, so that your practitioner can review them and time appointments sensibly.
I am being treated for something else — should I say that I am trying to conceive?
Yes, at your first appointment. Fertility is assessed differently and it changes what your practitioner will recommend, including whether herbal medicine is appropriate.
Treatment
Can Chinese medicine help with my condition?
Chinese medicine is used here as complementary support, alongside — not instead of — any medical care you are receiving. Whether it is appropriate for you, and what form it would take, is decided at your consultation rather than by the name of the condition alone.
How does the practitioner decide which treatment to recommend?
Recommendations follow the pattern identified in your diagnosis rather than the name of the condition alone, which is why two people with similar symptoms may be treated differently.
Will I need acupuncture, herbal medicine or both?
That depends on your assessment. Some patients have acupuncture alone, others do better with herbal medicine, and many have both. Herbal medicine is always optional and charged separately.
How many sessions will I need?
This varies by individual and condition. Many patients are given an initial course of four to six sessions and are then reviewed — recent injuries often settle more quickly, while long-standing complaints and skin conditions usually need longer. Your practitioner will give you a realistic expectation at your first visit.
Can Chinese medicine be used alongside conventional care?
Yes. Chinese medicine is commonly used alongside conventional treatment. Tell both your GP and your practitioner about any medication or treatment you are receiving, and never stop or change a prescribed medication without speaking to the clinician who prescribed it.
Will I be given diet or lifestyle advice?
Your practitioner may suggest simple, practical adjustments where they are relevant to your pattern. Advice is tailored to you rather than a fixed diet sheet.
Appointments
How do I know whether Chinese medicine may be suitable for me?
That is what the consultation is for. Your practitioner assesses your symptoms, history and wider health picture before advising whether treatment is appropriate.
Do I need a diagnosis before booking?
No. Many patients come to AcuMedic without a formal diagnosis, and our practitioners are experienced in working with undiagnosed or complex presentations. Bring any test results or letters you already have.
I can’t find my condition on the website — can I still book?
Yes. The conditions listed are a guide, not a limit. Book an initial consultation or contact the clinic and a practitioner will advise.
What happens at my first consultation?
Your practitioner takes a full history, discusses your symptoms, carries out a Chinese medical diagnosis and then talks through an individual plan with you. Treatment usually takes place in the same appointment where suitable.
Will I definitely receive treatment at my first appointment?
Not necessarily. Where treatment is appropriate it usually takes place in the same visit, but your practitioner will say honestly if they feel we are not the right place to help.
How long does an initial consultation take?
Initial consultations typically last around 60–90 minutes, allowing time for a full assessment and your first treatment.
Are consultations private and confidential?
Yes. Consultations take place in a private treatment room, and everything you discuss is confidential.
Can I book on behalf of someone else?
Yes, though we recommend the patient themselves confirms key details closer to the appointment.
