What We Help With
Staying Well
You don’t need to feel unwell to care for your health.
Chinese medicine can help you maintain your wellbeing, feel more like yourself and stay in tune with what your body needs.

Sometimes, there isn’t one clear problem to address.
You’re getting on with daily life, yet your energy may have dipped, your sleep may have changed, or you may simply feel a little off-colour. Perhaps you just want to pay a little more attention to your health.
Chinese medicine has a long history of supporting health before illness becomes the main reason to seek care. During an appointment, your practitioner can consider your energy, sleep, digestion, stress levels and lifestyle, and identify areas where some extra support may be useful.
Depending on your needs, that may include acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine or practical lifestyle advice. For some people, occasional check-ins are simply a way to stay more aware of their health and make sensible adjustments when needed.
How We Work
A Whole-Person Approach
Good care starts with understanding the wider picture. Your health history, lifestyle, current symptoms, and what you’re seeking support for all help inform what we recommend and, just as importantly, what we don’t.
Your Health Comes First
We only recommend what we believe is appropriate for you. Our practitioners are not paid on commission, so you’ll never be advised to have treatments or medicines you don’t need.
Clear, Honest Advice
Chinese medicine can often feel unfamiliar. We’ll explain what we find, what we recommend and why, answer your questions and help you make informed decisions about your care.
Who Treats You Matters
Our practitioners are selected for their clinical expertise and professional standards. We follow the codes of conduct of the Chinese Medicine Council and CMIR, and use carefully sourced, high-quality herbs and sterile single-use needles.

Common Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
Preventive Care
What does preventive care actually involve?
A full consultation, a Chinese medical diagnosis and a realistic plan — usually a combination of treatment and simple lifestyle guidance, reviewed as things change.
Do I need to be unwell to come?
No. Preventive care is for people who are functioning reasonably well but want to address early signs before they become something more.
How often should I come for preventive care?
Many patients come seasonally or every few months once an initial course is complete. Your practitioner will suggest a rhythm that suits you.
Can Chinese medicine help with blood pressure or weight?
These are often discussed as part of preventive care, alongside sleep, energy and stress. Support here is complementary and does not replace monitoring or medication from your GP.
Treatment
Can Chinese medicine help with my condition?
Chinese medicine is used here as complementary support, alongside — not instead of — any medical care you are receiving. Whether it is appropriate for you, and what form it would take, is decided at your consultation rather than by the name of the condition alone.
How does the practitioner decide which treatment to recommend?
Recommendations follow the pattern identified in your diagnosis rather than the name of the condition alone, which is why two people with similar symptoms may be treated differently.
Will I need acupuncture, herbal medicine or both?
That depends on your assessment. Some patients have acupuncture alone, others do better with herbal medicine, and many have both. Herbal medicine is always optional and charged separately.
How many sessions will I need?
This varies by individual and condition. Many patients are given an initial course of four to six sessions and are then reviewed — recent injuries often settle more quickly, while long-standing complaints and skin conditions usually need longer. Your practitioner will give you a realistic expectation at your first visit.
Can Chinese medicine be used alongside conventional care?
Yes. Chinese medicine is commonly used alongside conventional treatment. Tell both your GP and your practitioner about any medication or treatment you are receiving, and never stop or change a prescribed medication without speaking to the clinician who prescribed it.
Will I be given diet or lifestyle advice?
Your practitioner may suggest simple, practical adjustments where they are relevant to your pattern. Advice is tailored to you rather than a fixed diet sheet.
Appointments
How do I know whether Chinese medicine may be suitable for me?
That is what the consultation is for. Your practitioner assesses your symptoms, history and wider health picture before advising whether treatment is appropriate.
Do I need a diagnosis before booking?
No. Many patients come to AcuMedic without a formal diagnosis, and our practitioners are experienced in working with undiagnosed or complex presentations. Bring any test results or letters you already have.
I can’t find my condition on the website — can I still book?
Yes. The conditions listed are a guide, not a limit. Book an initial consultation or contact the clinic and a practitioner will advise.
What happens at my first consultation?
Your practitioner takes a full history, discusses your symptoms, carries out a Chinese medical diagnosis and then talks through an individual plan with you. Treatment usually takes place in the same appointment where suitable.
Will I definitely receive treatment at my first appointment?
Not necessarily. Where treatment is appropriate it usually takes place in the same visit, but your practitioner will say honestly if they feel we are not the right place to help.
How long does an initial consultation take?
Initial consultations typically last around 60–90 minutes, allowing time for a full assessment and your first treatment.
Are consultations private and confidential?
Yes. Consultations take place in a private treatment room, and everything you discuss is confidential.
Can I book on behalf of someone else?
Yes, though we recommend the patient themselves confirms key details closer to the appointment.
