Suitability

Is an Online Consultation Right for You?

It could be a good option if you:

  • Live outside London or find it difficult to visit the clinic in person

  • Want personalised support with Chinese herbal medicine

  • Would like a professional second opinion on an ongoing health concern

  • Are an existing patient booking a follow-up consultation

And if we think an in-person appointment would be better for you, perhaps for acupuncture or a physical assessment, we’ll let you know and recommend the best next step.

The Process

How It Works

  1. Book Your Consultation

Send us a booking enquiry and choose Online Herbal Consultation. We’ll take it from there.

  2. Meet Your Practitioner

Meet your practitioner by secure video for a full Chinese medicine consultation and diagnosis. They’ll discuss your symptoms, medical history, sleep and digestion, then assess visual signs such as your tongue and complexion.

  3. Your Personalised Plan

Your practitioner will explain what they find and recommend a personalised plan based on your assessment. This may include dietary and lifestyle advice and, where appropriate, a Chinese herbal prescription.

  4. Your Herbal Medicine

If herbs are prescribed, your formula is prepared in our Camden pharmacy as raw herbs or granules and delivered straight to your door.*

An online consultation is £35. Herbs are optional and charged separately — see herbal medicine prices. *International delivery may also be available. We’ll discuss the options for your location with you.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Online Consultations

How long is an online consultation?

An online Chinese medicine consultation usually takes up to 45 minutes. That gives your practitioner time to discuss your symptoms, review your health history, carry out a remote Chinese medicine assessment and explain their recommendations.

How should I prepare for my online consultation?

Choose a quiet, well-lit place with a reliable internet connection. Good lighting matters because your practitioner may need to look at your tongue and complexion on camera.

For about two hours before your appointment, avoid coffee and other foods or drinks that could stain your tongue. If you have recent blood test results, letters from your GP or other relevant medical reports, keep them nearby so you can refer to them during the consultation.

What happens during an online consultation?

Your practitioner will ask what has brought you to the appointment, discuss your medical history and check which medicines or supplements you take. They may also ask about your sleep, digestion, energy levels, lifestyle and other aspects of your health.

As part of the Chinese medicine assessment, your practitioner may ask to see your tongue and complexion on camera. They’ll then explain their assessment and talk through their recommendations. These may include dietary or lifestyle advice and, where appropriate, a personalised herbal prescription.

Is an online consultation as thorough as an in-person consultation?

Your practitioner follows the same careful consultation, assessment and prescribing process as they would in the clinic. The main difference is that they can’t feel your pulse remotely, so they’ll place greater emphasis on detailed questions and other diagnostic signs, such as your tongue and complexion.

If an in-person appointment would be more appropriate, perhaps because you need a physical assessment or acupuncture, we’ll explain why and recommend the most suitable next step.

How does Chinese medicine diagnosis work online?

Chinese medicine uses a diagnostic framework known as the Four Examinations. This draws on several types of information rather than focusing on one symptom or test.

During an online appointment, your practitioner will ask detailed questions and assess visual signs, including your tongue and complexion. They’ll consider this information together when forming their Chinese medicine assessment and deciding what to recommend.

What health concerns can I discuss during an online consultation?

People come to us with a wide range of concerns where Chinese herbal medicine and lifestyle guidance may be appropriate. These include fertility and reproductive health, skin and digestive concerns, women’s health and hormonal symptoms, stress and sleep difficulties, immune and respiratory health, persistent fatigue, and support alongside cancer treatment.

If you’re unsure whether an online consultation is right for you, our team can help you decide where to start.

Will I receive a personalised treatment plan?

Yes. Your practitioner will explain their assessment and recommendations during the consultation, so you understand what they’re recommending and why.

Depending on your needs, your plan may include dietary and lifestyle advice and, where appropriate, a Chinese herbal formula prescribed specifically for you.

What form will my herbal medicine take?

If your practitioner prescribes herbal medicine, our pharmacy will prepare your formula specifically for you.

For patients in the UK, prescriptions may be supplied as raw herbs or concentrated granules, depending on your practitioner’s recommendation. Different options apply to international prescriptions.

How will my herbal medicine delivered?

If herbs are prescribed, our pharmacy in Camden will prepare your formula and send it directly to your address.

Herbal medicine and delivery are charged separately from the consultation. The cost will depend on your prescription and the amount supplied.

What if I live outside the UK?

You can have an online consultation from outside the UK. International delivery of herbal medicine may also be possible, depending on where you live.

We don’t send raw herbs internationally. Patients outside the UK may receive prescriptions in other forms, such as granules or capsules, where available. International deliveries are also subject to local customs and import regulations, so we’ll confirm what can be sent to your location before proceeding.

Can I take the herbs with my current medication?

In some cases, Chinese herbal medicine can be used alongside conventional treatment. We’re happy to work alongside the medical care you’re already receiving, rather than asking you to choose between the two approaches.

Have an up-to-date list of your medicines and supplements with you during your consultation. Your practitioner will take these into account when deciding whether herbal medicine is appropriate and what can be prescribed safely.

Don’t stop or change prescribed medication unless the healthcare professional responsible for your care advises you to do so.

Will I need a follow-up consultation?

Your practitioner may suggest a follow-up appointment to see how you’re getting on and adjust your herbal formula or treatment plan if needed.

Follow-ups are usually recommended around 2 to 4 weeks after your first consultation, although the timing will depend on your individual needs.
