The Man Fong Mei Award

 

We’re proud to share some very special news with the AcuMedic family.

King’s College London has established the Man Fong Mei Award in memory of our founder, Professor Man Fong (Benny) Mei (1946–2014), through the King’s Centre for Integrative Chinese Medicine (CICM).

This award will support the next generation of Chinese medicine students and researchers in the UK, carrying forward the vision that guided Prof. Mei’s life and work.

A Life Devoted to Chinese Medicine and Integration

Professor Mei, a Physics graduate of King’s College London, devoted his life to making Chinese medicine safe, respected, and accessible in the UK and beyond.

As the founder of AcuMedic Clinic in 1972 and co-founder of the Chinese Medical Institute and Register (CMIR) with King’s in 1993, he played a vital role in bringing Chinese medicine into a respected academic and clinical setting.

From pioneering the world’s first disposable acupuncture needle to raising professional standards and training generations of practitioners, Prof. Mei’s work touched countless lives — including those of our patients today.

The Man Fong Mei Award

The Man Fong Mei Award will fund projects that explore new ways to integrate Chinese medicine into modern healthcare.

It will support students and researchers at King’s who are working on:

• Combining Chinese medicine with science and technology (e.g. physics, engineering, or data science).
• Developing safer and more effective treatments.
• Creating modern approaches that still honour traditional wisdom.

This award reflects the pioneering, integrative spirit that defined Prof. Mei’s contribution to Chinese medicine in the UK.

Carrying His Vision Forward

In the words of his son, Don Mei, Chairman of CMIR and CEO of AcuMedic:

“My father’s dream was always to create a healthcare system that was safe, effective, and centred on the patient — one that could bring the wisdom of Chinese medicine into the modern world. This award keeps that dream alive, and I’m so grateful to everyone who is helping to make it real.”
