Success. Have a nice day.

Tuina (‘twee-nar’) massage is based on the traditional theories of acupuncture and Chinese Medicine.

In fact some people believe that acupuncture developed from ancient Tuina practices of massaging with prepared rock tools.

How our Tuina Massage can help you

Tuina massage is a highly effective FUNCTIONAL massage that is quite different from other massage techniques such as Swedish or deep tissue massage. The style of massage is vigorous and involves quite a lot of rubbing, kneading and manipulation to stimulate blood flow, ease muscle tension and clear blockages and stagnation of Qi.

Tuina massage at AcuMedic in London is not for relaxing massage but instead is a powerful therapeutic tool for a number of various acute and chronic conditions.

All musculoskeletal issues (Frozen Shoulder; Lower Back pain, Carpal Tunnel, RSI, Sciatica etc) can be treated with Tuina massage as well as various internal conditions like digestive, circulatory and respiratory conditions.

Tuina massage is an effective treatment for sports injuries and a perfect massage for rehabilitation.

According to the system of Chinese Medicine tuina massage can be a regular part of a treatment plan for a number of various acute and chronic conditions:

+ How it works

The function of Tuina massage is to remove blockages and stagnation in order for the body to heal itself. If we take the example of a Repetitive Strain Injury (RSI), poor posture or continuous movements cause a blockage of the Qi and blood which leads to stagnation and pain. This may cause inflammation which further causes stagnation and the problem can become chronic.

Whilst other massage techniques may focus on relieving tension in the area through pressure, Tuina massage instead will use manipulation and massage to eliminate the stagnation of energy and blood by freeing the muscles and joints and stimulating blood, Qi and lymphatic flow. Once this blockage is eliminated, the body will naturally heal itself and the inflammation and tension will be relieved.

Therefore Tuina massage, much like acupuncture, takes a root cause approach to the problem and believes that any bodywork should be about encouraging the body to heal rather than alleviate the symptoms temporarily. This applies to musculoskeletal as well as internal conditions.

+ What to expect

All of AcuMedic tuina therapists are trained in Chinese Medicine and so treatment will begin with a more extensive consultation, possibly with tongue and pulse diagnosis. Depending on your conditions this may be relatively short or more extensive. It is important because Tuina is concerned with understanding your symptoms from an internal and energetic viewpoint.

+ Treatment

The massage treatment will begin and is usually performed dry with a towel or sheet between you and the therapist. It is unusual to use oils for Tuina massage. The treatment may feel strange to those who are not familiar with Tuina. The movements are fast and can generate heat and the massage of acupuncture points can be vigorous. Please understand that this massage is functional and whilst most people find the massage enjoyable it is far removed from the slower and more pampering movements of other therapies.

+ After the treatment

After treatment you should feel rejuvenated and any symptoms should be alleviated considerably. Tuina is one of the most effective massage treatments available for quick and powerful results.

+ What the clients say

“The massage was honestly fantastic. I am a new customer as my local Chinese medical centre had closed down & I was reluctant to try somewhere new. I am so pleased and will definitely return soon.”
