When pain needs more than one approach

Musculoskeletal pain can build for all sorts of reasons. An old injury that never quite settled. Years of repetitive movement or poor posture. Stiffness that has gradually crept in with age. Or pain that started suddenly and is now limiting how you move.

MSP Treatment was developed for cases where a combination of techniques may be useful. Rather than relying on a single method, your practitioner can draw on different approaches within the same appointment, depending on what they find during your assessment and what your body needs.

Not sure whether MSP is right for you? Our team can help you choose the best place to begin, whether that’s MSP, standard acupuncture or massage.

MSP Treatment

MSP Treatment is a unique multi-modality approach that brings together expert acupuncture, cupping, hands-on manipulation and advanced techniques in one tailored session. Your first appointment starts with a full Chinese medicine diagnosis and consultation, so your treatment can be shaped around your individual pattern of pain or tension and what you need from the session.

Who it's for
People dealing with musculoskeletal pain, persistent muscle tension or restricted movement, whether related to injury, repetitive strain, posture, physical activity or age-related changes.
Appointment length
Typically 45 minutes, initial assessment may be up to 75 minutes.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

MSP Treatment

How long does an MSP appointment last?

Most MSP appointments last about 60 minutes. Your first visit can take up to 75 minutes, as it includes extra time for your consultation and assessment.

How should I prepare for an MSP appointment?

Wear comfortable clothing that lets you move freely and, where possible, gives your practitioner easy access to the area they need to assess.

Before treatment starts, tell your practitioner about any injuries, health conditions or medication that could be relevant. It also helps to describe any movements or activities that feel difficult or uncomfortable, such as running, sitting at a desk, lifting or turning your neck.

What happens during an MSP appointment?

Your first appointment starts with a consultation and assessment. Your practitioner will ask about your pain or tension, when it began, what makes it better or worse, and how it affects your movement. They’ll also ask about any relevant injuries or health conditions.

After the assessment, your practitioner will explain which techniques they recommend. Depending on your needs, treatment may combine acupuncture with cupping, hands-on manipulation or advanced Pi/Fu techniques.

What should I do after an MSP appointment?

In most cases, you can carry on with your usual day. Depending on the techniques used and the area treated, you may notice some temporary tenderness or feel particularly relaxed afterwards.

Your practitioner will let you know if there’s anything they recommend doing differently after your appointment, including any activities you may want to avoid for a short time.

What conditions can MSP Treatment help with?

MSP Treatment is intended for musculoskeletal pain, stiffness and restricted movement. It may be suitable for:

  • Back and neck pain, including pain linked to slipped discs
  • Ongoing muscle tension and stiffness
  • Restricted movement
  • Repetitive strain injuries (RSI)
  • Postural strain
  • Sports injuries and other physical injuries
  • Pain or tension linked to everyday activities

Your practitioner will assess your symptoms, movement and health history before choosing the most suitable techniques.

How is MSP Treatment different from standard acupuncture?

Acupuncture is at the heart of MSP Treatment, but your appointment may also include other techniques where appropriate. Following your assessment, your practitioner may use cupping, hands-on manipulation or advanced Pi/Fu techniques alongside acupuncture.

The combination is chosen around your pain, muscle tension and movement restrictions, so the techniques used can vary from one appointment to another.

How do I know whether to book MSP, acupuncture or massage?

The right appointment depends on what you want help with. Standard acupuncture may be appropriate when acupuncture alone is the preferred approach, while massage focuses more directly on the muscles and soft tissues.

MSP Treatment is intended for musculoskeletal pain, stiffness and restricted movement, particularly when combining acupuncture with additional techniques may be useful.
